This week in science we have begun working on mechanical energy. Student's investigated pushing and pulling with a partner to discover the difference between the 2 forces. They talked about how their bodies are positioned differently and what part of their bodies are doing the work.
The next day, students used pushing and pulling to get a box through an obstacle course taped on the floor. Their goal was to follow the directions given in the obstacle course, get through the course as quickly as possible, and stay in between the lines. After completely the course, they filled out a reflection where they discussed which force, push or pull, was easier to do to the box and which force did they have more control over the box.
In math, students have been working to multiply by 2's and 4's as well as tell time. For each module, student's are posed with a challenge/extension project in which they are to apply their learning in class to a real world situation. Each problem is leveled so that all students are challenged and pushed at their appropriate level. Students are currently working on the following extension projects for Module 3. Our hope is that they are able to complete it by the end of the module so that they can begin working on the next module's problem.
Looking forward to the learning they will continue to do!
